How To Read A Playoff Schedule PDF Print E-mail
The following explains how to read a WMBA Playoff draw properly.
  1. All teams in all age divisions which a score is kept will make the playoffs.  Teams in divisions that do not keep score will get an extra 2 games played over the playoff weekends.
  2. Teams in the playoff draws are ‘seeded’ (or placed in the schedule) based on their win-loss record in the regular season. In the Fall / Winter league, only games played in Round 2 are counted towards a team’s playoff seed.  All games in Spring League are counted towards the playoffs.
  3. All Community Club and Rising Stars teams will receive at least 2 games in the playoffs (win or lose).
  4. Typically, the top seeded team will play the bottom seeded team, the second place team will play the second to bottom placed team and so on.
  5. Each playoff draw is slightly different but follows a similar pattern.

    • The ‘Qualifying Games’ are set up between lower seeded teams to playoff with each other, with the winner moving into the main playoff draw.
    • The loser of a Qualifying game will play the other teams which lost their qualifying games.  These games are usually shown at the bottom left of the schedule page.
    • Winning teams in the ‘First Round’ will move to the right (or Championship Side) of the draw.  Losing teams in the First Round will move to the left (or Consolation Side) of the draw.
    • Teams in the Championship Side who win their second game will keep moving to the right, typically into the City Final vs. another team.  Teams in the Championship Side who lose their second game will play in the Third Place game shown at the bottom right of the schedule page.
    • Teams in the Consolation Side who win their second game will keep moving to the left, typically into the Consolation Final vs. another team.  Teams who lose in the Consolation Semi-Final are usually finished for the season.  Some divisions see one of the losing teams in Consolation Semi-Finals play one of the losing teams from a Qualifying Game (typically in smaller divisions with an odd number of teams).
